In 1991, this 9000RPM revving rotary was able to beat Jaguar and Mercedes to win the 24 hours of Le Mans race. And it still remains as the only rotary to ever place 1st in the race.

Mazda announces special edition Roadster for Japan

2009 is Mazda's 20th anniversary of producing the Miata/Roadster/MX-5. The special edition will be based on either the soft-top six-speed manual version or the retractable hard-top automatic version of the car.
The Roadster 20th Anniversary comes with:
- Red and black Recaro seats
- 20th Anniversary badges
- Clear fog lights
- 17-innh aluminum alloy wheels
- Front strut tower bar
- Five-setting heated seats
- Synthetic leather door armrests
- Crystal White Pearl Mica color
Pricing in Japan will start at 2,860,000 Yen ($29,880) for the soft-top/manual version, while the power-retractable hardtop with the automatic goes for 3,110,000 Yen ($32,490).
